Our 2022 District Conference will be held June 16-17, 2022 at Victory Highway Wesleyan Church. On Thursday evening the 16th, we will have a Celebration of Ministry service honoring retirees and those achieving ministry milestones, and we will also ordain those approved for ordination earlier in the day during the conference business session.

Thursday, June 16th: First Business Session, 1:30pm-5pm
Friday, June 17th: Second Business Session, 8:45am-1pm

Celebration of Ministry Service (Thursday evening): 7-8:30pm (reception following)

Special “shoulder events” have also been scheduled:
  • A prayer/worship service: Wednesday evening the 15th, 6:30-8pm at Community Wesleyan Church, Horseheads, NY (reception following)
  • Equipping seminars (Victory Highway Wesleyan Church): Thursday morning the 16th, 8am-noon
  • Retired Pastor’s Luncheon (Victory Highway Wesleyan Church): Thursday the 16th 11:30am-1pm

Treasurer Seminars

A. Treasurer 10 Musts: Treasurers have ever increasing responsibilities. Did you every stop to wonder if you’re covering all your bases; if you’re setting your church up for failure or success? In this seminar Rev. Gary Hart and Mrs. Tammy Leonard will touch on the top 10 things that you should be doing in order to be successful in your position and to keep your church in a healthy financial state.

B. Budgets 101: In this seminar Rev. Gary Hart and Mrs. Tammy Leonard will discuss establishing a healthy and realistic financial plan (budget) and how to create financial reports that even a six year old can understand.
 
C. Pastor Compensation Packages: Learn the essential components that make up a Wesleyan pastor’s compensation package and how to accurately calculate pensions, social security bonuses (SECA), healthcare costs, housing allowances, and more. Kurt Parker, Victory’s Executive Director and Penn York District’s Financial Director, will walk you through the key aspects of making sure your pastor is paid correctly. This seminar is perfect for both church treasurers and pastors.
 
D. The New USF and DSF Assessment Plan: At the 2022 General Conference, a new formula for calculating the USF assessment was approved. There are new percentages, tier structures, and even a new fund being implemented in conference year 2023. The Penn York District financial team will also be working on a new common formula that will apply to all our local churches. Join Kurt Parker, Victory’s Executive Director and Penn York District’s Financial Director, for an introduction to these new formulas and begin to understand how your church and district might be affected. This seminar is recommended for both church treasurers, pastors, and board members.

District Board of Ministerial Development: DBMD Chairperson, Rev. Bob Russell, and other DBMD members will provide an overview of the ministerial preparation process, with a focus on the steps that a local church pastor and church board must take to recommend and help a ministerial student get started.
 
Global Partners: This seminar will focus on growing in relationship building and story-telling skills to bridge cultural differences with confidence and we will be inspired to view perceived cross-cultural barriers as bridges for sharing the love of Christ. General Conference Update: A selection of district GC delegates will provide an overview of the GC experience and explain some of the major memorials and decisions made. Significant time will be dedicated to Q & A.
 
Mental Health and the Church: We have recently come through a major health pandemic as a nation. We are now seeing a mental health pandemic and supports are understaffed. We, the church can be a great encourager and support, but many lack knowledge about mental illness. Come and learn about mental illness and how you can walk with individuals in your faith community. Church Discipleship and Multiplication: Our District Superintendent and Area Multiplication Leaders will provide an overview of our district discipleship and multiplication philosophy, vision, and strategy, church plant update/highlights, overview and testimony about the Small Circle discipleship resource and Made for More church resource
 
The Worship Service and Technology: Technology has become an important part of how churches proclaim the Gospel of Jesus. From digital soundboards, live streams, video switchers, PropPresenter and Ableton, technology serves a vital role in modern church. If your church is upgrading equipment, struggling to train volunteers, your online mix just doesn’t sound good, or just have questions on how to better incorporate distraction free technology, this seminar is for you!!

Clergy care: Several of our district Huddle Leaders will share about the importance of clergy care and helpful ways that a local church can provide care. An overview of clergy care resources available through the Wesleyan Church will be provided, along with Sabbatical planning resources and an overview of the PastorWell program.

Post-COVID Ministry: A panel of district pastors will discuss post-COVID ministry realities, and matters such as online ministry engagement, in-person church attendance, and how local churches are working to stay on mission in the post-COVID new normal. The panel will give significant time to taking questions from seminar participants.
